How to become a freelancer?

In this article you will learn how to become a freelancer!

In Germany:

The following steps are necessary so that you can accept orders as a freelancer on yoummday:

  1. apply for a trade licence - very simple (takes about 20 minutes):

Applying for a trade licence at the trade supervisory office or at the municipality can be done quickly and easily.

If you enter the terms "business registration online" and your town in a search engine, you will quickly find the office that is responsible for your business registration and the required form.

The cost of registering a business is between €20 and €60.

The fastest way is to register directly at the office and the officials there will help you if you have questions about the form.

There are numerous ways to fill out the form - here is a link and a few tips from us:

business registration (fuer-gruender.de)

On the legal form:

yoummday Talents usually work as an individual (registered with their name). But of course it is also possible to register as a GbR or GmbH.

Our tip:

If you carry out several activities, it is best to consult a tax advisor.

The details of the business owner and the business:

o If you work here as an individual, your name is sufficient. Of course, you can also give your activity a name - it would then look like this: "Sales professional Ralf Müller".

Main occupation or part-time occupation:

o Around 90% of our talents work for us full-time.

o Type of business: as a yoummday talent you would fall under Other.

o Registration is reimbursed for yoummday Talents for the "main establishment".

o Reason for setting up: If you have not yet registered a business, it is a start-up.

o You do not need a special permit as a yoummday talent.

Register a business for your self-employment (gruenderplattform.de)

At the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy you can also find

small brochures on the topic of starting a business. You can download these free of charge.

2. Apply for a VAT ID (takes about 5 minutes):

Open the form from the Federal Central Tax Office: Link

- Enter your federal state, your responsible tax office (you can find this on your last tax assessment notice), your tax number (you can also find this on your last tax assessment notice) and the legal form of your company (usually "other sole trader").

- The VAT ID will then be sent to you by post (usually within a few days).

3. inform health insurance - informally (takes about 5 minutes):

You write an informal e-mail to your health insurance company informing them that you have taken up self-employment and want to take out voluntary insurance.

Our tip:

In the email, request an "application for contribution relief". Then, according to the classification of the health insurance fund, you will usually pay less at the health insurance fund.

The health insurance company will be happy to help you here if you have any questions about filling out the form.

Please note: the tips are only non-binding recommendations.
